  • Mercedes Survived the Car Accident--Thanks to Him

As some of you might know, Mercedes had a very bad car accident last evening. She was on the feeder road at West Park and 610. She was several cars back from the light, stopped waiting for the light when an SUV at a high rate of speed plowed right into her side. He told the police that his brakes failed but they did not seem to believe him and the investigation continues. He hit Mercedes first then went air born and ended up hitting 6 other cars. There were 3 of them, Mercedes being one that went to the hospital. She had her seat belt on but the force of the impact took out her left side of the car and seat belt snapped in half. The car then started to turn 180 and she was ejected out. As scary as that sounds, we believe that if she would have not had her seat belt on, one of 2 things would have happened. She would have been ejected at impact and would have been a fatal or could have been pinned in the vehicle and the steering wheel would have caused great harm. The airbags did not deploy since she was hit from the side and rear. You can see the car was instantly made into a convertible. We are so thankful. The phone call that every parent fears...your daughter has been in a very serious accident....there was a lady at the scene that called me and said that she was alive but appeared to be in a lot of pain. She said that God was with her and that she was remaining there praying for her until the ambulance came and would take her to Ben Taub Trauma. God is so good, His angel was there. Then when we reached Ben Taub, the ambulance driver approached us and said that Someone was looking over her because this crash was incredible. He was amazed and wanted to let us know that he too saw a miracle this night. I dont have the space to write BUT please understand this my dear friends, this is truly a miracle and strangers have identified the presence of the Lord. We are so thankful for all that He has done to save our daughter. She did not have any internal injuries. Had some bruising of the head that caused temporary memory loss. About 1am her memory started to come back and she could remember certain things that she was struggling to remember. She did have an air pocket in her lung that we had to wait out in ER to see if it would grow and cause a pneuomthorax. Several chest xrays later, finally we got the word that looked like it was not going to grow any further and we were able to take her home. She had several lacerations on her head, none of which were on her face. She does have some road burn and many bruises and the front tooth slightly chipped (not noticeable but it feels strange) She is having difficulty with her left leg, it just does not want to cooperate with her but she is doing much  much better today. Tim took her home, so tonight she will rest in her own bed. Again ALL the GLORY goes to our Heavenly Father who was watching over her. Her last Xanga entry was asking if we knew that Jesus loved us.....well I know He does and loves her too. Thanks to all of you that came up throughout the night in the ER to spend time with us and pray, it was so terribly awesome and the love was ever so strong. I appreciate all of you so much and I know that Mercedes and Tim do as well.   Here are some pics of her car...hang on....

Pics cannot even begin to describe the emotions that Al and I felt as we approached her car this morning. We did not recognize it and Al even would not believe it was hers until her saw the license plate. We both almost collapsed in the storage yard, we had to hold each other up. I cannot begin to tell you what it is like in person, it was overwhelming and we both cried uncontrollably as we were there getting items from the car and taking pics. Unbelievable. It has been a terrible nightmare for the past 24 hours. It is a miracle, truly a miracle. One day my daughter sitting at a traffic light and is not even aware that she is about to experience such terror. But God is good, He creates us to not remember those times and what we dwell on now is the gratitude of His unending love and mercy. Still hard...but we will heal.

Yes, I got chills too.  God is so amazing - it is truly a miracle she survived and NOT a broken bone?  Simply amazing.

I got this news from Briann while I was driving today.  She called me from home.  It so shook me up!  I did not have far to drive.  When I stopped I went right to HIM pleading, begging, telling Him emotionally what I wanted.  I am like everyone else just in shock.  BUT there is no question that the angels of God protected her from harm.  I will carry her and Tim and you all in my heart in the coming days.  I just looked at the pictures and would swear no one in that car could come out alive.  But she DID.  Mercedes is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO precious to HIM and to TIM and to you and Al and Cruz and HUNDREDS of others like me.

Earlier today, I read a sad, sad site about a 3 year old child ejected from a child booster and killed in a rollover accident.  Minutes later, I went to Mercedes' site, and saw the comments there about an accident, but no other details.  I had this strange feeling and called and left her a voicemail message right away.  Becky was kind enough to forward the link on to me tonight, and I'm in tears here looking at those photos of her car.

It is a miracle that she is alive.  God is definitely good.  All of you will be in my prayers as she continues the journey of healing that lies ahead.  Please, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I was the 2nd photographer at Mercedes & Tim's wedding and saw Christine's post about the accident. What an amazing story and I am so relieved to hear that Mercedes came out alive. She and your whole family are in my thoughts and may she recover quickly!

I found your blog through Christine's.  Oh my gosh, the photos are terrifying and shocking. His arms were holding her tightly that day. I hope she is feeling better really soon. All the best to you and your family.
